Gonikoppal: The Coffee Board, in partnership with the Balele Gram Panchayat, will host a crucial workshop for coffee growers on Tuesday, August 13. The event will take place at the Balele Gram Panchayat Community Hall, starting at 10 am. This workshop aims to address the recent challenges faced by coffee farmers in Kodagu, also known as Coorg.
Recent weather patterns have significantly impacted coffee crops in the region. Officials from the Coffee Board will discuss how unseasonal rainfall during the early summer months, along with continuous cloudy weather and intermittent showers in June, have contributed to uneven berry development, premature berry drop, and an outbreak of rot diseases. The recent heavy rains have further exacerbated these issues, leading to a proliferation of pathogens and substantial losses in coffee plantations.
In addition to addressing these pressing concerns, the Coffee Board will provide detailed information about various subsidy schemes available to coffee growers. The workshop aims to educate farmers on how to take advantage of these schemes to develop coffee plantation and improve their crop management practices.
“This workshop is an essential opportunity for coffee growers to gain insights into the current challenges and learn about the support available to them,” said a Coffee Board official in a press release. “We encourage all coffee growers to attend and benefit from the information and resources provided.”
The Coffee Board emphasizes that participation in the workshop will equip farmers with valuable knowledge to better manage their coffee crops and navigate the impacts of recent weather anomalies.
